Highlights and Lowlights of 1998
Thumbs Up!
-
Going back to Chula Vista for Young Will’s graduation. Not only was
it good to see him again, it was a big relief that he graduated...
-
Family trip to Tokyo after Will’s graduation. Young Will got a chance
to use his Japanese for real, and he did well. He came in real handy when
we tried ordering from the menu.
-
Getting selected for Captain. Who’d have thunk it 20 years ago. Certainly
not me.
-
Scuba diving in Palau. Awesome, Awesome, Awesome. In one word, Awesome.
-
Travelling to Bali. The Asian financial crisis made it a great bargain.
A full course meal with drinks and dessert at a 5 star restaurant for under
$8....for the both of us!!!!
-
Ron and Jean exchanging wedding vows here in Guam. It was good to see
them finally tie the knot. It was a gorgeous setting, in a tropical island,
on the beach, with the sun setting.
Thumbs Down!
-
Missing Christmas in Chula Vista for the second straight year. Prior
to coming here, I’d only missed Christmas with our families once in all
my years in the Navy. For JoAnn and the boys, it was their first Christmas
away from “home”.
-
Recovering from Super Typhoon Paka which hit Guam right before Christmas
‘97. No electricity, No air conditioning, No cable TV, No football games!
It was months before we got cable TV back.
-
Having to watch live sporting events at 2 in the morning! This time
difference is inhuman.
